BURIED UNDER SAND
DEATH BY SUFFOCATION
KARAPIRO WORKERS' FATE O.C. HAMILTON, this day. At the inquest into the deaths of Mi-. John James Gough, aged 50, and Mr. Thomas Happeiiey, aged 50, who were killed at the Karapiro hydro-electric works on May 21. the Coroner, Mr. W. M. Freeman, returned a verdict of accidental death by suffocation through being buried in a fall of sand. The evidence showed that both were experienced workmen. After Mr. Gough was found to be missing, Mr. Happeiiey climbed into a bin with the idea of rescuing him. but was himself buried by a fall of sand.
