"JOB WELL DONE"

SIR HARRY BATTERBEE

PRESENTATION BY UNIONISTS P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. "Sir Harry-will leave his task in New Zealand knowing that it has been well done, and he will carry with him the goodwill of a host of friends —the goodwill of all trade unionists —and,. indeed, the goodwill of all the people of New Zealand, said Mr. F. P. Walsh, chairman of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, at a farewell extended by the council to the High Commisioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, Sir Harry Batterbee, before his return to England.

The trade union movement was strongly represented at the function and the Prime Minister,' Mr. Fraser, was among those present. Sir. Harry was presented with a pair of gold and paua cufflinks made by disabled ex-servicemen.

Sir Harry said he was grateful for having been afforded the opportunity to say good-bye to all his trade union friends, and to express warm appreciation of the presentation. The mission of a High Commissioner was to make friends with all sections of the people and he knew his successor, Sir Patrick Duff, was looking forward to the same friendship as he had enjoyed. He congratulated Mr. Fraser on the notable work he and other delegates had done at the San Francisco Conference and paid a tribute' to the part New Zealand had played at other world and Empire conferences.
