RELEASE SCHEME
N.Z. NAVY PERSONNEL
THREE CLASSES NAMED
Parliamentary Reporter. WELLINGTON, this day. A scheme for the release of certain personnel of the Royal New Zealand Navy was announced to-day by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones. The scheme applies to "war only" officers and ratings, and provides for the release of personnel over 41 years of age, married men with four or more children and long-service personnel.
"The order of release will depend on lehgth of service, marital status and the number of children," said the Minister. "In the case of other personnel who seek their discharge on compassionate grounds, or owing to essentiality to industry, their applications, as in the past, will require to be supported by a recommendation from the Armed Forces Appeal Board.
"No One whose retention is necessary for the prosecution of the war will be discharged, but every effort will be made to release men in their turn.
"The scheme will begin immediately, and will continue to operate, provided sufficient trained replacements are available."
