VICTORIA PARK PLAN
NO REPLY FROM GOVERNMENT
"The whole scheme will be impracticable unless the City Council, is given the buildings by the Government," declared the Mayor, Mr. Allum, this morning when commenting that the council had received no reply from the Government regarding its request that four military buildings on Victoria Park be made available free of cost for conversion into transit housing units. The formal request was made in a letter on July 5, though the actingPrime Minister, Mr. Nash, was informed on June 21 of the plan proposed by the council'! housing comi mittee.
The scheme was for the buildings to be moved from their present site to the north-west corner of the park. The area affected would be 14 acres and the accommodation provided would comprise 11 two-bedroom units and 13 three-bedroom units.
