LEVANT OUTBREAKS
CIVILIANS KILLED IN RIOT Bee. 10 a.m. LONDON, July 11. A Beirut message says that two civilians were killed and three wounded during disturbances on .Monday in the small coastal town of Banias, south of Latakia. Fighting is reported to have broken out between civilians and French troops, who went into action using rifles, machine-guns and mortars. The Syrian gendarmerie, after half an hour, stopped the fighting. It is learned that a British soldier who was killed in Aleppo earlier in the week, was hit by a stray bullet. He was not on duty ' at the time but was making his way to a Naafi (comforts) hut.
