I NEW INSTITUTE PRESIDENT RA - WELLINGTON, this day. T T }\ e i New Zealand Railway Officers* Institute, at its annual' conference yesterday, elected the following officer!President, Mr. J. W. Shepherd (Auckland?: North Island vice-president, Mr H? Johaiv son (Palmerston North); South Island vicepresident, Mr. L. Harvey (Otago); general treasurer, Mr. G. R. Wilson (Wellington)executive committee, Messrs. R W Johnson (Hutt workshops), v. u Trott (Woburn stores), A. J. Martin (loco running, Wellington), B. Tangney (mainteS ance, Wellington)'and M. J F Gilmore Mullins (Wellington), and J. S Lynch (traffic running, Hutt). Mr. Johan!wi Z aS appointed appeal board deputy, and Mr. Harvey tribunal deputy-assessor. It was decided to present the general secretary, Mr. J. S. Roscoe, with an iliuminated address in recognition of his outStanding work in connection with the preparation of the institute's case to the Railways Tribunal. Delegates paid a tribute to the lons and splendid service of Mr. Forde, the retiring president. Appreciative references were also made to the retiring South Island vice-president, Mr. P. E. Islip and the Wellington delegate, Mr. W. F. Vill These two men, along with Mr. Johanson! each had more than 20 years' executive connection with the institute.
