LEAGUE TRANSFER

AN APPEAL UPHELD THE WELLINGTON MATCH An', application t>y a Mt. Albert player, R. P. Smyth, for transfer to the Point Chevalier club, was discussed at a meeting of the board of control of the Auckland Rugby League last evening. A letter was received from the Mt. Albert club stating that it wished to retain Smyth's services. He was regarded as a good club man, and had been playing regularly for the Mount Albert senior B team. There was always a game for him in the team. i Smyth said that he had played the. first two Saturdays this season with the Mt. Albert senior team, and then had been stood down for four Saturdays. Mr. J. Clark questioned what the board could do in the matter, as Smyth was an emergency and if anyone had .been hurt he would have gone on. Mr. R. Doble said that if the player had applied for a transfer after the third Saturday he stood down he would have had everything in his favour, but it seemed that he had lost that opportunity by playing Senior B. Mr. I, Stonex said that it was evident that the Mt. Albert club did not have a place in its senior team for the player. The chairman, Mr. J. W. Watson, said that the ruling was that Senior B was definitely.a lower grade.

The board decided to grant the transfer on the ground that the player had been stood down for four consecutive Saturdays by the Mt,. Albert club. Rep. Match Plans Arrangements for the Wellington representative team to play Auckland at Carlaw Park on July 21 were discussed. Mr. Watson said that the visiting team would include J. Hemi and his younger brother, If. Hemi, the latter a Walrarapa Rugby representative player of this season. It was considered that the Hemi brothers would greatly strengthen the Wellington team. Senior Fixtures The senior fixtures for next Saturday are: Ponsonbv v. Manukau, Carlaw Park No. 1, 1.40, Mr. J. O'Shannessey: Otahuhu v. Mt. Albert, Carlaw Park No. 1, 3.0, Mr. G. Kelly; Marist v. City, Carlaw Park No. 2, 1.40, Mr. J. Hawkes; Newton v. North Shore, Carlaw Park No. 2. 3.0, Mr. R. Merrick; Richmond v. Pt. Chevalier, at Mt. Wellington, 3.0, Mr. H. Tate. Rukutai Shield The Otahuhu senior team was declared the winner of the Rukutai Shield for 1945, the team being the winner of the most championship points in the first round.

The Marist club was granted permission to invite a Wellington team to come to Auckland to play the Marist seventh grade team on July 21.

It was decided to play the match City v. Pt. Chevalier on August 18 at Glen Eden.
