HUNDRED CALLERS WEEKLY
SUMMARY OF PLACEMENTS
The Auckland Services' Contact Centre continues to play a valuable and substantial part in the rehabilitation of returned personnel. Reporting to a general meeting of the committee for the June period, Mr. C. J- Aitken, chief executive officer stated that callers now average 100 weekly, and that 430 exservicemen, ex-servicewomen anci employers had visited the centre in the period under review. On a recent Monday a record of 41 was set up. During the four weeks ended June 20, 50 men and women had been placed In employment, and business advice given and contacts arranged for 43 men. The following is a summary of the position to date:—Placed in employment, 269; self-placed, 115; seeking advitfe, business, etc. and .finalised, 151; total, 535. The various trades and professions in which men are seeking employment are as follows:—Clerical 25, storemen 11, drivers 9, salesmen-travellers 40, light work 16, caretakers 3, labourers 4. Among the trades and professions in which men have been placed were:— Bootmaking 6, clerks 37, drivers 21, salesmen 20, travellers 13, factory hands 11, labourers 29, engineerfhg firm 18, store-men-packers 46, factory machinists 6, inspectors (price tribunal) 3.
