UNDER ARREST
POLISH OFFICER
While Trying To Arrange Return To Home Country ■ N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, July 9. The Polish Press Agency, reporting the arrest on Saturday of Captain Waclaw Kostecki, who was a lecturer at the Polish training centre at Catterick Camp, says that democratic officers in the Polish Army are being terrorised.
The agency says that Captain Kostacki, who intended to travel to London to discuss repatriation on behalf of himself and his colleagues with representatives of the Polish Government of National Unity, was placed under arrest at his lodgings under a guard of two armed soldiers. The guard during the night was increased •to six. An inspecting officer then entered the room and told Captain Kostecki that he should be hanged. The agency adds that there "is a serious danger that Captain Kostecki may be courtmartialled." Captain Kostecki was released to-day, says a later report The Polish authorities stated that he was arrested on purely military grounds, because he had left the Polish military camp without permission.
