FINAL FIGURES
HAMILTON BY-ELECTION LITTLE VARIATION SHOWN ").C. HAMILTON, this day The returning officer, Mr. H. B. Reid, to-day declared the final figures in the recent Hamilton byelection. Delay was caused by the non-arrival of some votes of the armed forces. The final result shows little variation from the preliminary figures, Mrs. Hilda Ross (National) increasing her lead over Mr. C. A. Barrell (Labour) by five as a result of the final figures from the armed forces. The total voting, including civilian and forces votes, shows: Mr. Barrell, 5406 civilian votes and 305 forces votes—a total of 5711; Mr. J. A. Lee (Democratic Labour), 1130, 101— 1231; Mrs. Ross, 6467, 310—6777; Mr. D. J. B. Seymour (Independent), 139, 27—166.
The Central Mediterranean Command (Italy) gave Mr. Barrell 41 votes, Mr. Lee 13, Mrs. Ross 53 and Mr. Seymbur 5. The respective totals for the Middle East were 15, 6, 14 and 3. In New Zealand Mr. Barrell received 172, Mr. Lee 56, Mrs. Ross 172 and Mr. Seymour 11. Of 86 votes from the Pacific, Mr. Barrell received 37, Mr. Lee 15, Mrs. Ross 28 and Mr. Seymour 6, while in the United Kingdom the 88 votes recorded were distributed as follows: Mr. Barrell 38, Mr. Lee 9, Mrs. Ross 39, Mr. Seymour 2.
