THIRD PRIORITY
CEMENT FOR FARM WORK NEW SCHEME OPERATING The fact that supplies of cement for certain authorised work on farms had been given priority immediately after naval dockyard and Karapiro hydro-electric works, was mentioned by Mr. R. C. Clark, chairman of the Auckland District Council of Primary Production, at to-day's meeting. The work on farms for which cement would be made available, he said, was restricted to milking sheds, piggeries and poultry houses, provided that a building permit had been issued and the application was supported by a certificate from the Department of Agriculture or the council. Supplies in each case would be limited to needs for seven days.
The secretary, Mr. W. Alexander, who is a member of the committee dealing With applications, pointed out that only urgent ■work was considered.. The farming industry was ■now receiving one-half of the cement manufactured in the North Island.
The chairman said the farming industry was indebted to the building controller, Mr. K. Rowllings, who had obtained the sanction of the Minister of Supply to the priority, with the result that the scheme was operating satisfactorily.
