POTATO SHORTAGE
LICENSE TO IMPORT REFUSAL. BY GOVERNMENT The statement by the Auckland Grain, Seed and Produce Merchants' Association (Inc.) that an application for a license to import eating potatoes from Australia to relievo the present shortage in the North Island had been refused by the Government is questioned by the Customs Department. The president of the association, Mr. H. S. Clist, said to-day that no application was made to the, Customs Department for a license to import potatoes, but the necessary preliminary inquiries were made as to whether such a license would be granted if made and the association was informed that such a license would not be granted.
