DRAINAGE SCHEME
I am not any sort of a drainage expert, but I do remember how we were promised perfect results from the Orakei scheme. We were told float tests had been carefully taken, that none of the spoil would reach the beaches and so forth ,but what did we get? Something that pleases only the seagulls. If the Brown's Island scheme can turn the fluid out water-clear, why not apply it to Orakei and save the expense of the underwater sewer to Brown's Island? After reading some of the great things that have been done by scientists of late years it would appear that the Brown's Island scheme is years out of date. . My excuse for writing (if one is heeded) is that I have used the Hauraki Gulf for my principal playground for over 60 years and hate to think it will be messed up for the rising generation who love the sea.
