SHOT IN BACK
MAN GRAVELY HURT
INQUIRIES BY POLICE

The police are investigating the shooting of a man in a remote locality in the Lake Tarawera district, 40 miles from Rotorua.
Early this morning Mr. Norman Newton reported to the Rotorua police that at 4 p.m. yesterday he found a fellow-workman, Mr. Chris. McDonald, aged about 50, lying seriously wounded in the bush.
Mr. McDonald had been shot in the back and the bullet had come out through his arm. At 3 o'clock this morning McDonald's condition appeared critical and Mr. Newton left for Rotorua to report to the police.
Detective-Sergeant J. White and a number of constables, headed byInspector Angland, left immediately for the locality.
