AS LOW SEES THEM
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
Rec. 10 a.m.
LONDON, June 28.
A cartoon in the Evening Standard by David Low depicts the Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand, Messrs. Curtin and Fraser respectively, as just landed from a rowing skiff named Captain Cook. They are sceptically survey-
ing a notice-board on which is printed: "Labour Government means, firstly, a Gestapo; secondly, Parliament abolished; thirdly, the Jap war neglected; fourthly, the Empire bust." Colonel Blimps, in loin cloths, defend the board with bows and arrows and other primitive weapons. Low depicts himself in the corner of the cartoon as bored and unconcerned with what is happening around him.
David Low, cartoonist and caricaturist, was born in New Zealand in 1891. He was educated in Christchurch and commenced his newspaper work in that city. He joined the staff of the Bulletin, Svdnev, in 1911, the Star London in 1919, and the Evening Standard in 192/.
