LOOKING ACROSS THE MODERN BUSINESS CENTRE of the Japanese capital, which arose on the ashes of the 1923 earthquake. The traditional architecture of Japan is entirely missing and there is nothing to show that it is an Eastern city. The special defence of Tokyo and Osaka against invasion has been discussed at a special meeting of the Japanese Prime Minister and seven former Prime Ministers, and a new army has been formed for the defence of Tokyo.
