SUPPLY OF MILK

IMPLEMENTING OF ACT

WANGANIH DISSATISFACTION

O.C. WANGANUI, this day. • It was the intention of the Milk Marketing Division to complete arrangements for implementing the Milk Act in metropolitan areas before in towns the size of Wanganui, said Mr. A. Blake, formerly of Auckland, an officer of the division, at a meeting of interested parties in Wanganui. The control of the milk supply would probably pass from the division to the City Council in August.

"Until the local authority is constituted, the division will undertake that the consumers get what they want," added Mr. Biake. "When the council assumes control it will have adequate facilities for all milk. Unsatisfactory supplies come from outside sources and unregistered sheds, but an improvement is prom'sed in the next few days Next winter we hope that all milk associations throughout the Dominion will be able to supply an adequate quantity of milk from registered sheds. Very strict control is needed of milk from outside sources, which must be pasteurised."

The reason for the unsatisfactory inauguration of the Milk Act in Wanganui was that the treating house "stepped off a few months too soon," when neither the vendors nor the treating house had proper facilities to handle the supply.

Mr. Blake said that reorganisation of the industry should have been made years before.

The meeting lasted for nearly three hours, and there were many interjections. When Mi*. Blake said there was no chance of reverting to the old system without an amendment to the Act, it was stated that the Consumers' Committee would not be satisfied until an amendment was secured. There was a chorus of "Noes" .when Mr. Blake asserted that the bottled supply was a definite improvement.
