FKAXKLIN TEAM SURPRISES Feature of this morning's series of matches in the Country Week hockey tournament at Walker Park was the surprise defeat of the unbeaten Whangarei A team .which went under to Franklin A by 6 goals to 3. Yesterday Franklin was decisively beaten by, Rodney, but it gave a vasty improved display this mornXDtt to score a meritorious win. Rodney, which again won, is now the only unbeaten team. The games this morning were played in steady rain and on very heavy grounds, and, consequently, the standard was rather poor. Rodney scored a comparatively easy win over Whangarei B by 11 goals to 1. L. Wyatt. was again in fine form, netting five, goals. Other Rodney scorers were Andrews (3), Neeley, Ashton and K. Meiklejohn. Jenkins goaled for Whangarei. Waipa defeated Franklin B by 3 goals to 2 after a hard-fought game. Adams (2) and Irwin scored for Waipa, and Moore secured both of Franklin's goals. The game between Franklin A and Whangarei A was keenly contested, the former team giving its best display of the tourney. Kayes (3), Clarke, Ball and Tompkins scored, for Franklin, while Whangarei's goals were netted by Bint (2), and Mullins. The tournament will be concluded this afternoon. Games played yesterday afternoon resulted: Whangarei A 2 (Heid, Mullins), beat Waipa 0; Rodney 9 (Wyatt 5, Ashton 2, Andrews 2) beat Franklin A 1 (Bell); Whangarei B 1 (Hannam) beat Franklin B 0.
