CHILDREN OF TO-DAY
Victory in Europe! The news has come And every man will soon be home. Those days of wicked strife are o'er And anxious hearts will he no more. "Victory in Europe!" children shout And wave their little flags about, The flags of Britain, U.S.A.. Of Russia—all these claim the day. How happy Europe now will be To see her folk, not slaves, but free; They are the ones who've suffered most From Hitler's war and Hitler's boast That Germany soon would be the power— But look at it: rubble and ruin now, Their lovely cities all destroyed 'Mid bombing, guns and battle noise. We are the children of to-day And we must strive to keep and stay This happy peace that we have v/on; Let man no more take up a gun. God gave us everything we need, Why must we all be ruled by greed? So when real peace is ours again I Let love and goodwill always reign. | —By Mary Willis, 16 (original).
