AMENDED AWARDS
The amendment has been made by the Arbitration Court to the New Zealand Shipping Companies' clerical workers' award providing for wage increases ranging from £7 to £30 per annum for males and £6 to £26 per annum for females, based on the Court's recent basic wage pronouncement.
The new basic wage increase has also been incorporated in a new award, operative for one year from April 1 last, made for New Zealand (except Marlborough, Westland and Canterbury) soft goods warehousemen The increase in wages ranges from 5/ for juniors to 10/ for seniors male or female. A week of 40 hours in five and a half days is prescribed. Mr A. L. Monteith dissented from the hours clause, holding that a fiveday week should have been prescribed.
