PROTEST FROM DANNEVIRKE
P.A. DANNEVIRKE, this day. At a largely-attended . meeting, representative of town and country, resolutions were passed: (1) Protesting against the taking of the census this year, and pledging to do all possible to prevent it being taken; (2) viewing with alarm any alteration in the Parliamentary representation allowed undir the country quota, without the electors having an opportunity of recording their views by means of a referendum; and (3) protesting against the Government taking over the Bank of New Zealand.
The meeting, which was convened by the Dannevirke Chamber of Commerce, decided to urge the Associated Chambers to urge that the Governor-General be petitioned to prevent the Government taking action respecting the Bank of New Zealand until a referendum of the electors of the Dominion was taken.
