TRANSIT HOUSING
SURVEY TO BE MADE
Decision to convene a conference within a fortnight of representatives of.all local authorities in the metropolitan area, together with officers of Government Departments and members of Parliament, in order to arrange immediate transit housing, pending the provision by the Government- of additional permanent accommodation, was reached at a meeting of the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies Association last night.
In a memorandum, the president, Mr. I. J. Goldstine.. suggested that, pending the conference, all local authorities should be asked to undertake an immediate survey of their districts to ascertain whether there were any buildings available and suitable for transit housing. It was further suggested that if there were any buildings suitable but not available, consideration should be given to acquiring them for housing purposes. It was decided that members should report back to the bodies they represented immediately, so that surveys could be begun without loss of time.
