FARMS AND HOMES
SERVICEMEN'S NEEDS The lack of farms and residential properties in cities and suburbs for returned servicemen is referred to in an interim report to members by the president of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand, Mr. G. S. Boys. The Institute, he says, has continued its policy of .impressing on members the necessity for doing all in their power to assist returned servicemen to obtain farms and homes. A recent pronouncement to the effect that one-man farms can now be submitted for valuation without obligation on the part of the vendor to sell at the price fixed on, has had the effect of restoring a measure of confidence to farmers, and the consequence may be that more one-man farms will be available in the future. As regards town properties, it appears that it will be a long time before Government building can overtake the arrears, and with legislation prohibiting the aggregation of land, a further handicap has been placed on building for letting purposes. Notwithstanding difficulties, there has been a considerable volume of business in the sale 'of property.
