COURT'S WARNING
DENTAL MECHANICS
ILLEGALLY PRACTISING
"Anyone else coming here, now that attention has been publicly drawn to the matter, will not be treated so lightly," said Mr. S. I. Goodall, S.M., in imposing a fine of £3 on a dental mechanic, Eric Harland, aged 43, who appeared before him in the Magistrate's Court, this morning, charged with practising dentistry without being a registered dentist.
Mr. Cleal, who prosecuted, said that defendant had an extensive business at his home at Balmoral, where he took impressions, made dentures and carried out repairs. He had been doing this work for 12 years, except for a period when he was in the Army Dental Corps. In pressing for a substantial penalty, Mr. Cleal said the Department had reason to believe th'at the practising of dentistry by dental mechanics was on the increase. Defendant said he had now given up doing this work at home and was to-day working for a registered dentist.
