TRAINING OF NURSES
O.C. WHANGAREI, this day. Acting on the advice of the director of the Nursing Division, Miss Lambie, who recently toured Northland, the. Mangonui and Bay of Islands Hospital Boards last night took 'steps to have the Kaitaia and Kawakawa hospitals constituted as training schools for nurses' aides. While a pupil nurse cannot start training until 18, they can commence as aides when 15, this early service counting towards the course for the State nursing examination. ■ _ The Mangonui Board anticipates that the adoption of the scheme, together with salary increases for nursing aides, will relieve the acute hospital staffing difficulties which have not been met by manpower directions.
