CONSISTENT GALLOPER

Although lie has not won a race in 17 starts this season. Flying Ace, which has 8.4 in the Winter Handicap, has been placed on no fewer than 10 occasions, his last performance being a very close second to Longsword in the Connolly Handicap at Wanganui on June 4. A few weeks earlier, he finished second to Capronella in the Edmund Goodbehere Memorial at Feilding, and he now meets the latter on 81b better terms. Last season Flying Ace defeated a strong field in the Thompson Handicap at Trentham, and, as that was his last success, his return to the winning list is a bit overdue. He is a five-year-old son of Bulandshar and Lady Oratress and is raced by that well-known sportsman, Mr. T. A. Duncan. A GOOD WINNER Kaitoa . has been a good winner this season for Mr. J. Spears as the win in the Rongotea Handicap marked his fourth success in 11 starts this season. Kaitoa is a five-year-old by Man's Pal from Satisfy, which had a brief turf career, but ranks as a winner of the McLean Stakes. Satisfy was got by Solferino—Satisfaction, by Benzonian—Satisfaire. PUTUKK LOOKS BRIGHT Since resuming work at EUerslie the rising three-year-old General Lytup has gone on the right way, and his condition suggests that he will be ready to race early in the new season. The fact that he has been gelded will also be to his advantage, and it would not surprise to see the son of Solicitor-General and Lytup showing marked improvement next term. * IX WORK AGAIN Rakanui is back in light work at Greenmeadows, but has not been subjected to any test that might give a line to his prospects of standing up to another preparation. He has not raced since he broke down in the Canterbury Cup in December, 1943. FIRST SINCE SEPTEMBER Ganges, which is trained at Opaki by T. L. Jennings, made a forward showing in the First Ruahine Hack Handicap at Awapuni, coming from a good way back to finish fourth. It was his first run in public since September, and in the meantime he has built up into a solid animal, states the Dominion. Ganges is a five-year-o'd by Bulandshar from Leith, by Arausio from the good race mare Shirley, who was a member of one of the most successful families bred at Karamu. POSSESSES PACE Mr T. Fisher's hurdle candidate Nanook was given a race on the fiat at Awapuni and was running on satisfactorily at the finish, showing that he does not lack pace. Nanook is being prepared by A. Goodman at Trentham for hurdle racing, but his lack of size may always be against him under the hurdle scale of weights. He is =oundlv bred from a staying point of View being by Foxlight from Katrina, by Catmint from Warstar, by Maniapoto from Lady Lucy, by Seaton Delaval from Hilda, by Musket.
