MIDDLE EAST VETERANS FOUND BRIDES IN AUSTRALIA P.A. DUNEDIN, Thursday. Six Middle' East veterans, accompanied by their Australian wives, returned to the Dominion to-day. Four of the returning soldiers were North Islanders and two were Christchurch men, who travelled north by express this morning. The North Island members of the party will continue their journey tomorrow.
The party consisted of Major R. W. Grieve (Hastings) and his wife and child, Captain H. C. Gayford (Palmerston North), Lieutenant R. G. Ward (Wellington), Private G. R. Walker (Takanini), Sergeant D. McDonald (Christchurch) and Driver A. J. Grafton (Christchurch), all of whom were accompanied by their wives.
Four of the Australian wives come from Perth, one from Brisbane and one from Melbourne. Although they all appeared to be delighted to have arrived in New Zealand, the hope was generally expressed that the temperature would not usually be so low in their future home towns as it was at Port Chalmers this morning. Several of the Western Australian girls met their future husbands when New Zealand troops called at Perth, where, according to one bride, they were very popular, but would never be forgotten because of their escapades.
