Fourteenth Army Makes Headway In Irrawaddy Area

A South-east Asia Command communique says that Fourteenth Army troops on the Mawchi Road, east of Toungoo, have further advanced against opposition and captured enemy guns. Casualties were inflicted on the enemy in the action at Zalon, on the east bank of the Irrawaddy, nine miles west of Prome. Mopping up continues satisfactorily over the whole area. Allied heavy oonioers attacked the railway yax-ds at Chumphon, on the Kra Isthmus, hitting rollingstock and starting fires. Medium bombers, in low-level attacks, caused man?/ fires among enemy troop positions east of Pegu and Letpadan. Mines were also laid in enemy waters.
