DOCTORS DISAPPROVE

PROPOSED DRAINAGE SCHEME

Immediate amendment of the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage Act, 1944, and detailed investigation of possible alternative schemes to avoid use of the Waitemata Harbour for sewage disposal is urged in a resolution passed by the Auckland Division of the British Medical Association. A copy of the resolution has been forwarded to the Auckland and Suburban Drainage League. There were now 20,000 names to a petition on the subject, made available for public signature in Queen Street last Friday, and it was hoped to gain a further 30,000, said the president of the league, Mr. T. C. Webster, to-day. Opposition to the Brown's Island scheme was expressed by a meeting of Herne Bay residents at Mr. Webster's home last night. A resolution was passed giving full support and offering assistance to the league in its campaign.
