EMPIRE DAY PLANS
PROGRAMME FOR THURSDAY
The usual gathering organised by the Central Committee of the Patriotic Societies of Auckland to mark Empire Day will be held at the Queen Victoria statue in Albert Park at noon next Thursday. The Mayor, Mr. Allum, and the ch air " man of the committee, Mr. E. Earle Vaile, will give brief addresses. Wreaths will be laid- by the Mayor and representatives of patriotic societies and other bodies. The Empire Day message from the president of the Empire Day Movement, the Earl of Gowrie, V.C., will be read. Wreaths will also be laid in the morning at the Maori War Memorial statue in Symonds Street by representatives of the Victoria League, which will give a reception in tne afternoon to woundpd and returned men of the forces. In the evening the annual reception of the Royal Empire Society will be held at the Auckland University College. The guest speaker will be Brigadier G. H. Clifton.
