FIRM GOVERNMENT MEASURE^

The Syrian Government has taken r firm measures for the maintenance* of order in Damascus, where local. newspapers describe the situation as, grave, says Reuters Damascus correspondent. The Syrian Chamber of Deputies yesterday passed an urgent Jaw for national defence, providing for the calling-up of recruits for defence in peace as well as m war.
