Chinese Forces And Equipment Flown From Burma

The story of one of the largest cair moves of men and equipment m,, the history of the India-Burma-' China theatres was revealed by a - correspondent at Eastern Air Com--mand headquarters. E^y Decemberwuapanese ground troops were driving west from Lieuchow, seriously threatening Chungking and Kunming, as well as the eastern terminus of the air and land communication routes between inaia and China. J-' To meet this situation it was decided to transport by air to China; from Burma the 14th and the 22nd Divisions of the Chinese Sixth Army, together with their pack animals and equipment. The 14th Division was moved in December and thQ 22nd Division at the end of December and early in January. „ More than 25,000 men and 15,000 pack animals were transported, as well as scores of jeeps, howitzers and mortars. Over 1500 sorties were flown from bases in the Myityina area to airfields in the vicinity of Kurong.
