WAITEMATA ELECTRIC POWER BOARD IMPORTANT NOTICE TO CONSUMERS Notice is hereby given that, under the Electricity Control Order, 1945, no person shall at any time of the day or night use or cause to be used electricity from any public supply of electricity to operate any appliance or equipment for:— (a) Exterior sign lighting. (b) Interior sign lighting other than utility sign lighting. (c) Interior or exterior outline or ornamental lighting. (d) Flood lighting any exterior part of any building. (e) Under-verandah lighting other than Community Lighting. (f) Community Lighting except on the statutory late night during the period between half an hour after sunset and 9 p.m. (g) Shop window lighting in excess of an average of 10 watts for each foot of window frontage, or outside the period between half an hour after sunset and 9 p.m. on any day, or during that period at any time (except while the window is being dressed or cleared) after the shop is closed for the remainder of the day. The effect of (g) is that shop window lighting complying with t this Order is permitted only between half an hour after sunset and 9 p.m. on'any day such shops are permitted to remain open, and with all other shops closing at an earlier time, shop window lighting is permitted only from half an hour after sunset, and all shop window lighting must be extinguished after the shop is closed for the remainder of the day. All interior lighting of shops, milk bars, restaurants, etc., .'must also be extinguished when the premises are closed for the remainder of the day. Nothing in the above shall apply to the use of electricity for such lighting as may be required for safety at any entrance or exit of any premises. Under the provisions of the Order, the Board has appointed suitable aualified persons to ensure that the provisions of this Order are complied with; and such persons are empowered to take all necessary steps to ensure adequate compliance with these requirements, including, if thev think fit, the disconnection or sealing up of all equipment in the premises which do not comply with the requirements of-this Order. The penalties for breaches of the Electricity Control Order, 1945, are- Summarv conviction to imprisonment for a term of twelve months, or to "a fine of One Hundred Pounds, or to both such imprisonment and such fine. The Electricity Controller, in once again reiterating the seriousness of the electric supply position, has informed the Board that the fact that these penalties exist does not seem to be generally known, and convictions in the Courts are to be sought.
