CORRESPONDENTS' VIEWS
2ND DIVISION, N.Z.E.F,
To the Editor I would like to support the writers of the letters in the Star of recent date and to add and emphasise that it was expected that when peace in Europe was achieved our much-fought division would come home. Surely New Zealand has done its part, and, more in comparison with any other Dominion. Every father, mother, wife and sweetheart has waited patiently. When Mr.' Fraser visited the boys in Italy they told him candidly that they expected to return home when the Germans were finished and this, I understand, was also told to Mr. Jones during his recent visit. Listen in at 9 o'clock every Sunday morning to the "Boys Overseas." What do you hear? The whole theme is, "It won't be long now, hope to see you soon." Are those boys two years and longer fighting in Italy to be -disappointed? Field-Marshal Smuts did not take long to make and give -a decision regarding the South African Division. Anyway, there will be such a mass of troops from, our American aHy and from England fighting Japan there will be little room for a single division of New Zealanders. There should be no difficulty on the part of the Government to make up its mind to bring home . all our boys without any further wastage of manpower. Surely the name they have made as : a fighting force will uphold the name of New Zealand for all time. Is it not very much better for this country to continue its war effort in the field of production: and help to feed the large armies figiitnig Japan Europe? FATEH3R.
