This is a return bout of their thrilling encounter at Dunedin on April 9, when Stevens won on a technical K.O. in the 12th round. Describing the fight, the Dunedin Star stated that the attendance was over 2500 and that McCann had established a comfortable points lead in the first eight rounds, he was the livelier and scored time and time again with both hands. He did most of the leading and, had he been able to continue, the fight was his. It was a grand fight and at the end of the 10th round McCann was a definite winner, . and this is a 10-round contest.
