"A GOOD IDEA"

MATCHES IN SUBURBS

RUGBY LEAGUE PROPOSAL

"A very good idea," said the chairman, Mr. J. W. Watson, at a meeting of the .Board of Control of the Auckland Rugby League last evening, when a request was received from the Ellerslie United League Football Club for two senior matches, one at Ellerslie, and one at Mount Wellington. It was pointed out that Mount Wellington was a growing district, which covered Mount Wellington, Penrose and Panmure. Mr. Watson said that the League might as well play matches there as at Point Chevalier and Mount Albert. One of the board members said that there were indications that, the League game would be revived at Mount Wellington next season; The matter was left in the hands of the chairman to confer with the secretary of the Ellerslie League Club. The Marist Club was granted the use of Carlaw Park on Monday, June 4, for a Town v. Country benefit match for J. Chalmers, a member of the Marist Club, who returned from war service severely injured. It was decided that the curtain-raiser to the Auckland-South Auckland match at Carlaw Park on June 9 should be a match between an Auckland fourth grade team and , South Auckland fourth grade thirteen. On the casting vote of the chairman, it was decided that the control of senior B football should be in the hands of the Junior Control Board, but that the players should receive senior insurance. Mr. E. Knowling, who has been away from New Zealand with the Armed Forces, was reappointed treasurer to the league. Fixtures for next Saturday are:—Manukau v. Ponsonby.
