INDIRECT COSTS
MANUFACTURERS' ATTITUDE P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. Commenting on the statement issued by Mr. Sullivan regarding manufacturers' rights to recover
increased costs arising out of the recent wage adjustments, the president of the N.Z. Manufacturers' Federation, Mr. Lan Matheson, said to-day that the Minister's statement was substantially correct as the Manufacturers' Federation understood the position. However, it was definitely incorrect to say that the federation had agreed that increases in direct labour costs only should meantime be dealt with. This, along with several others, had been a major point of disagreement at the conclusion of negotiations with the Price Tribunal. The federation felt that it would be fair and reasonable to adopt a temporary blanket formula, or procedure, to allow the recovery of some, if not all, of the indirect, as well as the direct costs, and that a practical method could have been 'adopted to achieve this.
