MINE WAGES CLAIM
UNDERGROUND OFFICIALS
ANOMALY RECTIFIED In connection with claims by the Northern Coal Mines Underground Officials' Union, the decision of the Coal Mines Council is that the increase of £1 a week asked for by the deputies and the underviewers cannot be granted under the stabilisation regulations. The council agrees, however, that an anomaly existed in that the West Coast deputies had a higher wage than the Northern deputies. It has been decided, therefore, that the present wage be increased by 2/10 per week in order to make a uniform rate of pay. The council has also agreed that the shift allowance granted by it last July shall apply to deputies and underviewers. The members of the council were: Messrs. J. Dowgray (chairman), F. Carson and A. Prendiville.
