"GREAT CREDIT TO CITY"
PLAN TO EXTEND SCHEME
The City Council was investigating a number of other sites with a view to extending the Western Springs transit housing scheme, paid Mr. H. P. Burton., chairman of the council s housing committee, when he v? a , s being questioned at this mornings sitting of the Parliamentary Committee on local government. Four more units were to be constructed in the near future on the camp site, he said, and development of an area adjacent, to the zoo was contemplated. In reply to Mr. W. J. Poison. Mr. Burton said the possibility of the camp lapsing into a slum area had been closely considered by the council. The scheme was purely temporary in nature. Where possible no tenant remained at the camp longer than three months. A doctor attending the area had said there was no part of the city where there was less incidence of disease. Rentals at. the camp had been so fixed to meet overhead costs, Mr. Burton said in reply to the chairman of the committee. Mr. RMcKeen. These ranged from 20/ to 22/6. "The camp is a great credit to the city," commented Mr. Poison.
