FIRST TIME IN ACTION
BRITISH JET FIGHTERS Rec. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, April 18. British jet-propelled fighters terday went into action for the first time over the Western Front, cables the British United Press correspondent. They attacked enemy transport south of Hamburg. The Second Tactical Air Force during the day destroyed or damaged 460 vehicles. Allied air forces on the Western Front yesterday destroyed 445 enemy planes in the air and on the ground. ■ Lancasters this morning attacked railway yards at Cham, east of Nuremberg, in direct support of the advancing ground forces, states the Air Ministry news service. Cham is an important junction on the Nuremberg line to Pilsen. Mosquitoes last night attacked Berlin airfield, Ingolstadt, announced Supreme Headquarters.
