CONSUL TO LEAVE
MR. HIRAM A. BOUCHER POST AT RIO DE JANEIRO After three and a half years as United States Consul in Auckland, Mr. Hiram A. Boucher has been ap-. pointed First Secretary of the Embassy and Consul-General at Rio de Janeiro. He will leave with his wife and family to take up his new appointment within a" few weeks. Mr. Boucher was appointed to succeed. Mr. J. G. Groeninger at Auckland in September, 1941, and arrived the. following month. Added importance was attached to his term by the stationing in New Zealand of large numbers of American troops. Born in South Dakota, he entered the United States foreign service in 1921, and before coming to New Zealand'held consular posts in Spain, Eire, Italy and Geneva. In the last war he served in the United States Ambulance Corps with the Italian Army from. 1917 to 1919 and. was awarded the Italian War Cross. Until a new Consul is appointed the Vice-Consul at Auckland, Mr. J. C. Fuess,- assisted by Mr. J. Boyd, Vice-Consul at Wellington, will be in charge of the Auckland consulate.
