DAY OF RECORDS
SECONDARY SCHOOL SPORTS Four fresh records were created and six others equalled at the Auckland Secondary Schools athletic championships, held at Eden Park on Saturday. The outstanding performer was J. G. C. Myles, of Mount Albert Grammar School, who won the two senior sprint events, the quarter mile, and finished second in the 12Q yards hurdles. In winning the 100 yards, Myles equalled the existing record and also the New Zealand junior record of 10 l-ss. G. G. H. Gilmour, King's College, set new figures for the senior shot and the discus, while N. T. C. Wilson, also of King's, cut nearly three seconds off the intermediate half-mile record. J. W. Franks, Takapuna Grammar School, won the junior 100 yards in 11 1-os, which was l-5s faster than the record.
During the afternoon A. R. P. Eustace, the New Zealand 120 yards junior hurdles champion and a competitor at the school sports last year, returned 2G seconds for the 220 yards hurdles. The official record for the distance is 26 2-ss, which Eustace recently equalled, although his performance has not yet been officially recognised. R. Agate, the national sprint champion, was to have made a special attempt on the New Zealand 100 yards and 220 yards records, but, as the conditions were bad, he contented himself with a fine exhibition furlong.
