NATIONAL JUNIOR ATHLETIC RECORDS
CASE OF R. GRINTER
Performances Of Eustace, Holland And Miss Singe Recognised
Considerable discussion was caused at this week's meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association by an application from R. E. Grinter (Auckland) to have his distance of 102 ft 5 5-Bin in the national junior hammer throw event at Napier on February 24 recognised as a record. Members differed in opinion as to whether the record should be allowed or not in view of the fact that the standards for the event was 140 ft. No previous application had been received. Some members of the council expressed the view that as the performance was the best to date the record should be allowed- Others thought that if it was below the standard a record could not be claimed. Members unanimously agreed to lower the standard of the junior hammer throw to 120 ft. It was agreed to hold over Grinter's application for consideration at a later date.
