LOWRY BAY'S SUCCESS

Beats Outsider, Sister Sal, at Riccarton: Punters Well on the Mark

Lowry Bay was allowed to set his own pace in the United Nations' Handicap, and in the run home none of his opponents get near enough to challenge him. There was a great finish for the minor placings, Sister Sal stalling off Palfrey by a neck, with Signal Officer, Golden Souvenir and Foxhaven right up in line. Beau Cheval dropped back at the start, and at the end of three furlongs Lowry Bay was bowling along easily a length clear of Sister Sell, with Palfrey and Vaforts a similar margin back, clear of Golden Souvenir and Miss Medley, with Foxhaven and Signal Officer next. Beau Cheval was at the rear. Lowry Bay had increased his lead to three lengths as they raced past the six-furlong post, while a furlong further on Miss Medley was checked and drifted quickly to the rear of the field. Except that Golden Souvenir and Signal Officer had improved their positions slightly, there was no change to the straight. Lowry Bay still held a lead of three lengths at the distance from Sister Sal, with Palfrey and Golden Souvenir half a length back, just in front of Signal Officer, Foxhaven and Beau Cheval. Lowry Bay came on, full of running, to win by two lengths from Sister Sal, with Palfrey a neck back and Signal Officer, Golden Souvenir and Foxhaven heads away.
