TROOPING THE COLOUR

Your correspondent under -the? nom de plume of R.A.L. lias attracted my attention. At the outset I would like; to • point out that the Royal Standard is flown only to the King and Queen and the Queen : Mother» the Royal children, the Crown - and Viceroys. In the Brigade of Guards a curlbus .fact is noticed that ; three flags are awarded only to the Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards arid the Scots Guards. The Welfeh Guards and' the Irish Guards? are awarded, two. The flags are called the Colonels, the Lieutenant-Colonels and the Major flags.-In the-case *>f the aforementioned Grenadier. Guards and the Coldstream Guards all;thr.ee flags are flown as the King's. Colour, while in „ the case of the Scots Guards, only two are flown as the King's Colour. The Irish Guards and the Welch Guards only fly.'.the the King's Colour and the Regimental Colour. The King's Colour, is sometimes called the Queen's Colour, if the Sovereign is a woman. They represent a very rich history aiid embrace the whole of the Englishspeaking world. For the Colour all men have gone forth to uphold? its glory and traditions from whence they have come. Possibly, some of your readers will remember the last occasion when the Colour was trooped, but I know I spent; an Indian summer in hospital In 1918, very close to London, and never saw the Colour actually trooped.
