A SYMPHONY PRIZE
CONTEST FOR AMERICAS
NEW YORK. A prize of 25,000 dollars for the best new symphonic work by a native-born composer of any nation in the Western Hemisphere is being offered by Henry H. Reichhold, Detroit industrialist, and president of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Compositions placing second and third in the contest will be awarded 5000 dollars and 2500 dollars, respectively. Entries, which must be submitted bv July 1, 1945, should run between 25 and 35 minutes in playing time and must be scored for full orchestra. The winners will be announced on November 1, 1945.
The three prize-winning works will' be performed by the Detroit Symphony under Karl Krueger and will be broadcast over the Mutual network during the weekly series of broadcasts by the orchestra. Shortwave will carry the programmes throughout the Western Hemisphere.
