LEAGUE OPENING

DRAWS FOR SATURDAY REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS Final arrangements for the opening of the Auckland Rugby League season next Saturday afternoon were made at a meeting of the Board of Control last evening. The chairman, Mr. J. W. Watson, presided. Fixtures for next Saturday are:— City v. Martst, Carlaw Park No. I, i.40, Mr. H. Tate; Mount Albert v. Otahuhu, Oarlaw Park No. 1. 3.0 p.m., Mr. J. Ground Not Ready The Onehunga Borough Council advised that It could not assist in playing areas for the season. Waikaraka Park had been handed back by the Army authorities and was being reconstructed by the Works Department. It was hoped that part of the ground would be ready for use for the 1946 season. Mr. Watson sa.id that the matter had been discussed at a meeting of the Council of Sport, and a fear was expressed that too much meta! would be left to work through the soil. Any ground that had been taken should be restored to the condition it was In when taken over. The point that was clear was that Waikaraka Park would not be ready for this season Advice was received that the following had been elected members of the Junior Control Board:—Messrs. G. Batohelor, W. Dormer, A. Strong. S. M. McClure. W. Berger, C. Howe. E. Renner. L. Healy, I. Stonex. The Junior Board advised that Mr. I. Stonex had been elected chairman, and that he would be its representative on the Board of Control. Advice was received that an attempt wns being made to revive the code in the Rotorua district where it has been In recess since 1940.
