"GOT A BIT WINDY"

YOUTH WHO TOOK MOTOR SEA TRIP TO DANCE A charge of stealing an outboard motor and one gallon of benzine, of. a total value of £35 2/9, was admitted by Cyril Stanley Giles (19). a driver, when He came before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. Giles, said Detective - Sergeant Trethewey, was yachting off Waiheke Island on April 1 and went ashore at Rocky Bay, intending to go to a dance. He found there was no dance at Rocky Bay but that there was one at Surfdale. As the distance between the bays was too far to row he took the outboard motor, fitting it to the dinghy. On returning to Rocky Bay he did not replace the motor, but put it on his yacht and brought it to Auckland. It had since been recovered. Giles was a first offender. Giles told Mr. Luxford that on his return to Rocky Bay he "got a bit windy" and did not return the engine. He brought it to Auckland, intending to return it to Rocky Bay by steamer.

Giles was placed on probation for 18 months and ordered to pay £3 to the owner of the motor.
