HEAVY TRACK SUITED AVONDALE RACE IMPRESSIONS No fewer than six horses trained at Ellerslie was successful at the Avondale Jockey Club's meeting on that track on Saturday, and this was a most unusual occurrence, accounted for, no doubt, by the heavy track. It is; a strange thing, but true, that whereas the local horses are so often seen at a disadvantage on their home course when the conditions are ideal for racing, they invariably make good under adverse conditions. On Saturday, when the track was heavy, Kindroon set the ball rolling by taking his division of the Dominion Handicap, Good Fun carrying on with a brilliant performance in the . Hobsonville Hurdles, which she won in such a fashion that punters are on the qui vive for her next appearance. All three places in both the Waitakerei and Foley Memorial Handicaps were filled by country-trained animals, but Ellerslie again played trumps in the first division of the Nursery, Mr. L. H. Prangley's Safari colt Saltwater doing the decent thing t>y the local brigade, while General Lytup, trained by H. Eva at Ellerslie, failed narrowly to take the second division from Black Ace. The Mount Roskill Handicap was won by Our Gold, which should know nearly every blade of grass at headquarters, where hitherto he had promised well on several occasions, only to fail on race days. Cowper then came from the clouds, as it were, to win the Mount Eden Handicap, and bring joy to the hearts of not a few "double-backers," while that gay deceiver, Navroze, also got up in the last few strides in the Morningside Handicap, thus making six successes for the local representatives.
