MAY PLAY LEAGUE
POSITION OF A. V. WILES | There are rumours that several prominent Rugby players will change over to the League code this winter. One mentioned in this respect is A. V. Wiles, possibly the best centre three-quarter in Auckland Rugby last year, who played in that position for N.Z. Services against New Zealand at Athletic Park at the end of the season. It is stated that Wiles, who came up through the grades of the Ponsonby Rugby Club, will play for Mount Albert League. Wiles reached his best form for the Services' fifteen, opposed by the Wellingtonian, B. Roberts, and had much to do with Services' win, 21—19. Returning from service with the N.Z. forces in the Pacific, he played only two games for Auckland last season, as centre threequarter in the return match with Waikato and full-back against Northern Combined Services in place of Sorenson, who was injured at that stage of the season. Wiles suffered an injury to the wrist in the Ponsonby-University club match a week before Auckland's first game with Weilington, and was unable to play either in that game or the return match at Eden Park a fortnight later. The injury mended in time for the New ZealandServices match. Asked to comment this morning'. Wiles said he knew nothing definite on the matter at the present, and it might be some time before he was sure of the position.
